MACHINE SHOP AND BIKE MECHANIC

Machine and Mechanic Experience
2018

During my time at UW Madison, I worked in the machine shop on campus.  There I received shop certifications namely; Lathe, Mill, Welding I and II, Wood I and II, CNC I and II, and 3D printing.  I became proficient enough to teach other students how to use equipment, and perform general maintenance on the machines.  One of the highlights for me was learning the CNC in which I could machine my own parts for different student projects and personal bike projects.

Furthermore, in the summers and holidays I work as a bike mechanic.  I worked at Rib Mountain Cycles in Wausau, WI and for the past year have worked at Revolution Cycles in Madison, WI.  I consider bicycle mechanics to be engineers themselves.  It takes a mechanical mind along with a vast amount of creative design to repair/upgrade bikes.  I have carried this knowledge with me through my engineering degree and it has helped tremendously!
