A Computational Investigation of Right Ventricular Function

VTB.JPG

Right ventricular failure is the leading cause of death in patients with pulmonary hypertension and is now under scrutiny. The assumption that the right ventricle functions the same under stress as the left ventricle has recently been proven false. Because of these many ambiguities, further research on the right ventricle is being conducted. Moreover, how do changes in organ and myocyte-level functions of the cardiovascular system affect right ventricular function? A computational model of the cardiovascular system was developed and is being used to asses this question. Subsequently, a sensitivity analysis can be performed to find out more about right ventricular function.
